Intermediate CORE
Colorado Youth Outdoors intermediate CORE classes in Fort Collins take a deeper dive into your favorite activity from CORE class. We offer each intermediate class once a year to 10 adult/teen pairs.
This is Time Well Spent with your teen in the outdoors!
After you’ve tackled the intermediate class, you’ll receive an invite to our Adventure Series for that activity.

January 29, February 5, 12 & 19, 2025
Intermediate Fly Tying
This 3 evening, 1 half-day course will bring you beyond the basics as we learn two types of basic casting, entomology, fish handling, pond ecology as well as tips and techniques used for fly fishing in moving water.
The course will culminate with a trip to St. Peter’s Fly Shop. CYO provides a gift certificate to pick out fly tying supplies.
Must have completed fly tying in CORE to register.
May 14-17, 2025
Intermediate Fly Fishing
This 3 evening, 1 half-day course will bring you beyond the basics as we learn two types of basic casting, entomology, fish handling, pond ecology as well as tips and techniques used for fly fishing in moving water.
The course will culminate with the opportunity for each pair to schedule a complimentary guided trip with St. Peter’s Fly Shop.
Must have completed fly fishing in CORE to register.
June 4, 11 & 18, 2025
Intermediate Rifle
Hit the bullseye at CYO! Learn how to master the small-bore using scopes, increasing distances and calibers in preparation for a big game experience.
This course will guarantee a tag and guided experience with a CYO employee.
Must have completed small bore in CORE to register.
July 23, 30 & August 6, 2025
Intermediate Archery
This 3-evening course will bring you beyond the basics as we learn how to shoot type different types of bows and arrows and bow maintenance.
This class will culminate with two tickets to compete in CYO’s 3D Archery Tournament, hosted at CYO the 2nd weekend of August.
Must have completed archery in CORE to register.
August 13,20 & 27, 2025
Intermediate Shotgun
Learn to shoot clay pigeons from different angles. Home in your skills with the gun you will use to shoot waterfowl or upland birds.
Upon completion of this course, you will attend a waterfowl or upland bird hunting trip with a CYO employee.
Must have completed shotgun/trap in CORE to register.
